Met Area Players Compete in Q-School Final

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (December 15, 2019) -- Following top-40 finishes at Korn Ferry Tour's Q-School Final, John VanDerLaan and Theo Humphrey have both earned additional starts for the Tour's 2020 season. The additional eight Met Area players that advanced to finals own conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour's upcoming season.

VanDerLaan, a Southbury, Conn., native that tore through early rounds of Q-School, continued his strong play upon Orange County National's Crooked Cat and Panther Lake courses. Rounds of 67-69-65-67 landed VanDerLaan an 18-under total and a tie for seventh. With the finish, the former Met Junior runner-up and 2018 Connecticut Open champion gained guaranteed entry into the first 12 events of the 202 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season.

Humphrey, of Greenwich, Conn., carded rounds of 69-67-70-67 en route to a 13-under total. The former MGA/MetLife Boys champion finished tied for 27th, guaranteeing entry into the first eight events of the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season.


ELMSFORD, N.Y. (December 11, 2019) -- Qualifying School for the Korn Ferry Tour's 2020 season comes to a close this week, as more than 150 players have headed to Orange County National just outside of Orlando, Fla., looking to improve their status for the season. A number of Met Area players are once again in the mix, with play taking place Thursday, Dec. 12-15 on Orange County's Crooked Cat and Panther Lake courses.

Alex Beach
The Westchester Country Club assistant professional is looking to cap off what's been an incredible 2019, in which he won the PGA Professional Championship during the spring, competed in the PGA Championship and PGA Cup, then won the Assistant PGA Professional in November. 

Max Greyserman
The Short Hills, N.J., native tallied a pair of top-10 finishes in 22 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019. Greyserman, who competed in this year's Met Open at Piping Rock Club, made 12 cuts and finished the year 80th in the season's standings, which earned him a spot in this week's Finals.

Theo Humphrey
The former MGA/MetLife Boys champion used an eighth place finish in Second Stage to advance to Finals. The Greenwich, Conn., native and Vanderbilt graduate competed in the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock and has competed on the Mackenzie Tour over the last two seasons. In 2019, Humphrey played 12 events and made nine cuts en route to five top-25 finishes and a pair of top-10s.

Sean Kelly
The Staten Island, N.Y., native has made 22 Mackenzie Tour starts and 15 Korn Ferry Tour starts since graduating from University of South Carolina in 2016. He logged a career-best sixth place finish in 2018 in the Korn Ferry Tour's Pinnacle Bank Championship. Kelley snagged one of the last advancing positions from Second Stage in Plantation, Fla., to earn his spot in Finals.

Ryan McCormick
The past Met Amateur champion earned his spot in the Finals by finishing tied for 13th at Second Stage in Plantation, Fla. McCormick competed on the Asian Tour in 2017 and has made nine Korn Ferry Tour starts since 2016, with his career-best 11th place finish coming in the Savannah Golf Championship. McCormick finished tied third in this year's Met Open at Piping Rock Club.

James Nicholas
In his first attempt at Q-School, the 2017 MGA Player of the Year shot a 5-under 67 in the final round of Second Stage in Dothan, Ala., to earn his spot in Florida this week. Nicholas finished the summer third on the MGA's Player of the Year listing, tying fifth and earning low-amateur finishes in both the New York State Open (co) and Met Open.

David Pastore
The 2014 MGA Player of the Year closed his 2019 season on the Mackenzie Tour strongly, finishing third and second in the season's final two starts. Add in two more top-10s during the season and Pastore finished the season seventh on the Order of Merit to earn an exemption to Finals. Pastore won the Mackenzie Tour's Niagara Championship in 2016 and has made three career starts on both the Korn Ferry Tour & PGA TOUR.

Ryan Siegler
The West Windsor, N.J., native finished tied fifth with a 13-under total in Brooksville, Fla., for Second Stage. Siegler, a 2016 graduate of Towson, has spent the last two years competing on PGA TOUR China, playing in 23 events and making 15 cuts.

John VanDerLaan
The Southbury, Conn., native and 2014 Met Junior runner-up put on an impressive performance in second stage, shooting 23-under to top the field by eight shots. VanDerLaan, the 2018 Connecticut State Open champion is making his second consecutive appearance at Final Stage.

Brandon Wu
The Stanford graduate that calls Scarsdale, N.Y., home is also looking to punctuate an impressive 2019 by improving his Korn Ferry Tour status for 2020. Wu tied for top honors in Second Stage in Murietta, Calif., shooting 17-under as he and Jordan Niebrugge bested the rest of the field by eight shots. This year Wu helped Stanford to a NCAA title, competed in both the U.S. Open and Open Championship and helped the U.S. squad to victory in the Walker Cup.

What they're playing for:

  • The medalist at Final Stage (and ties) will receive fully exempt status for the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season.
  • Finishers 2-10 (and ties) at Final Stage will receive exempt status for the first 12 events of the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season, and will be subject to subsequent reshuffles (which occur in four-event intervals).
  • Finishers 11-40 (and ties) at Final Stage will receive exempt status for the first eight events of the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season and will be subject to subsequent reshuffles (which occur in four-event intervals).
