MGA Team Finishes Second at The Williamson Cup
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 14, 2023) – The team representing the Metropolitan Golf Association finished second at the 58th Williamson Cup on Monday. Teams from 10 golf associations around the northeast competed over 36 holes at Lookout Point Country Club in Fonthill, Ontario.
The Rochester District Golf Association won the Williamson Cup with a team score of plus-13 445. The MGA was two shots back at plus-15 447. It is the second straight year the MGA has finished second.

Charles Schrohe from Greenwich, Conn. and Nick Smith Jr. from Rye, N.Y. carded 1-over 73s in the second round on Monday. Zachary Munno of Stamford, Conn. finished with a 5-over 76 in round two. Schrohe was 1-under on the front side with three birdies and two bogeys. Smith’s 73 in round two followed an 85 in round one and included three birdies.
Schrohe was the top individual for the MGA, finishing in a tie for second at plus-three 147. Tommy Sharps of the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association took home medalist honors after finishing at even par 144.
The MGA sat in second after the opening 18 holes on Monday with a plus-9 225. Leading the way were Munno and Schrohe. with opening rounds of 2-over 74. Munno posted 37 on each nine and Schrohe fired a 1-under 35 on the front on his way to his 74. Zachary Berger from Remsenburg, N.Y. recorded an opening round 77.
Founded in 1964, the Williamson Cup is a 36-hole stroke play competition. Four juniors represent each association, with the best three scores from each round counting toward the team's overall score.
