MGA/MetLife Men's, Women's Four-Ball Qualifying

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 6, 2023) -- The MGA/MetLife Men's Four-Ball Championship was established in 1977 to give the average golfer a high-caliber tournament experience. After it’s success, the MGA/MetLife Women's Four-Ball launched in 1985. Both championships continue to stand among the MGA's most popular, with qualifying beginning at the club level, continuing with sectional qualifying and concluding with the championship proper. This year, three sectional qualifying rounds take place to see which Men’s teams advance to Deal Golf & Country Club (Oct, 23) and which Women’s teams advance to Navesink Country Club (Oct 23).

September 7 - Timber Point Golf Course, Great River, NY
Over 20 sides teed it up at Timber Point, with Drew Seccafico and James Dunne of Crab Meadow Men's Club leading the way with a net score of 10-under par 62. Seccafino and Dunne finished the day with a combined six birdies and two net eagles as they claimed the top spot. They were followed by Brian Dougherty and Sean Hartnett of Eagles Golf Club along with Tom Hind and John Chang of Bethpage who both finshed with a net 63. Hind and Chang also tied for the low gross of the day with a 2-under 70, matching the same score by Chris Lambrou and Nick Lambrou of Salisbury.

On the womens side, all competing teams advanced to Navesink Country Club. Hee Ryang and Clara Kim of Bethpage earned top spot in both the gross and net divsion. A combined 7-under par net score was two shots clear of the closet competitors. All women's net sides tallied net scores of 76 or better. On the gross side Ryang and Kim came in at 2-over par thanks to a trio of birdies. This was four shots clear of seond place. Lorraine Vultaggio and Catherine Strick of LPGA Amateur Golf Association finshed gross second with a score of 6-over par 78.

September 18 - Panther Valley Golf & Country Club, Allamuchy, N.J.
It was Justin and Joey Sanchez of Silver Lake Men's Golf Club along with Michael Weiss and David Guttag of Leewood Golf Club who would share the top net qualifying position. Both sides finished with a 5-under 66. Justin and Joey Sanchez shot 2-under on the front and followed up with 3-under par on the back 9. Michael and David recorded 6 birdies on the day on their way to a net 66. They would also take home the top spot of the Gross division with a 1-under par 70.They were closely followed by Daniel Banker and Curtis Melton of Tri-County Golf Club who finished at 4-under par to claim the final net postion.

Jonathan Biava and Ryan Whooley of USGA/MGA Golf Club qualified via gross after recording a 1-over 72. Colin Thomas and Matthew Collins of Ridgwood Country Club along with Artie Yannaco and Dabid Laboriel of Spook Rock Men's Club alongside Fran Wilson and Michael Ciesla of Ash Brook Golf Course all qualified with a 3 over 74. 

Deborah Rusolo and Laura Delin of Weekenders Women's GC took home the top honors in both the net and gross division. Their score of a net 73 was 3 shots clear of the field. All Women's sides that competed 18 holes advanced. 

September 19 | Hudson Hills Golf Course, Ossining , N.Y.

20 Plus sides teed it up at Hudson Hills for the final MGA/Metlife Four-Ball qualifier. Scott Filor & Chris Filor of Patriot Hills Golf Club took home the top net position after shooting 8-under par. Their round was highlighted by 10 birdies as they finished 3 shots clear of second. Rex Whitehorn & Jonas Young-Borra claimed the second net position with a 5-under 66. Following them in the net division was Jose Medina & Steve Haggerty of Blue Hill Golf Association. The team of William Fitzpatrick & Anthony Mirando from South Shore GC finished in a solo fourth. Three other teams would qualify via net at 1-under par.

The Team of David Smith & Thanh Tran of River Vale CC were the top qualifying team from the gross division after finishing with a 7-over par 78. They were followed closely by the team of Jonathan Ferraro & Michael Lafeve of Sterling Farms Mens Club. There would be another four teams to qualify with a svotr of 84 or better. 
 
The Women’s Side was led by the pair of Sandra Lugar & Sharon Nightingale of Redding County club after posting a new 79. There were a total of four Women’s teams that qualified.
