Qualifying: 105th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 24, 2019) -- Met Area professionals and amateurs all have their sights set on earning their way to the 105th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway, August 18-20 at Mountain Ridge Country Club. The region's premier championship and most sought-after title returns for the fourth time to the West Caldwell, N.J., club, where Tom Nieporte (1966), George Zahringer III (1985) and Mike Gilmore (2000) have previously hoisted the Walker L. Trammell Trophy. Who will be next to add their name alongside these legendary Met Area names and others like Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen?

This year's qualifying takes place at six sites throughout the Met Area between July 27 and August 10.

July 27 - Cherry Valley Country Club, Skillman, N.J.
Results | Qualifying Positions: 10 & ties
Players went low at Cherry Valley as Pat Wilson of Hamilton Farm fired an 8-under 64 to lead 12 qualifiers that shot 4-under or better. Louis Kelly of Metedoconk posted 7-under 65, while amateur Brendan Davis joined a trio of professionals including 2015 PGA Championship low club professional Brian Gaffney of Essex Fells with 5-under 67s. Recent Met Junior champion Luke Sample of Old Oaks led another six players, four of which were amateurs, to make it in behind 4-under 68s.

July 29 - Bedford Golf & Tennis Club, Bedford, N.Y.
Results | Qualifying Positions: 11 & ties
Eleven players made the 2-over 73 cut on Wednesday at Bedford Golf & Tennis Club to advance to Mountian Ridge Country Club, with amateur Trevor Randolph of Arcola finishing at 3-under 68 to lead the way. Fellow amateur Ethan Ng of Knickerbocker and pro Max Theodorakis of Ridgewood (CT) posted 2-under 69s. MGA eClub - Westchester/Fairfield Conor Rooney along with pro Dylan Newman of Brae Burn came in at +1/72, and seven players, six of which were amateurs, made it in at 2-over 73.

August 3 - Hamlet Golf & Country Club, Commack, N.Y.
Results | Qualifying Positions: 10 & ties
A total of 14 players advanced to Mountain Ridge by shooting even-par 70 or better at Hamlet, led by a 5-under 65 from Timothy Rosenhouse of Engineers. Twelve of the 14 qualifiers were professionals, with Lucas Cromeenes of Maidstone posting 4-under to finish second on the day. Seven players finished tied at even-par to make it on the number, including 2017 Long Island Open champion J.D. Guiney of Piping Rock.

August 3 - The Saint Andrew's Golf Club, Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.
Results | Qualifying Positions: 11 & ties
The Saint Andrew's Golf Club's very own Mitch Gray, Tim Puetz of Siwanoy and amateur Ryan Jensen of Metropolis shared medalist honors with 3-under 68s to move on to the Met Open. Matt Mattare of Darlington, the 2018 Met Amateur champion who just advanced to match play in the Met Amateur last week, carded a 2-under 69 for solo second, while Peter Springstead of Hackensack posted 1-under 70 to complete the day's out sub-par rounds. Frank Esposito of Forsgate was one of three players coming in at even-par 71, while Gregory Bisconti and amateur Louis Amira represented well on home turf, both advancing among six players that carded 1-over 73s.

August 6 (PPD from August 4) - Metuchen Golf & Country Club, Edison, N.J.
Results | Qualifying Positions: 10 & ties
Brian Krulfeifer of North Jersey led the way with a 4-under 67, as 16 players earned their way to Mountain Ridge. Amateur Prescott Butler of Piping Rock and LIberty National's Corey Brigham both carded 2-under rounds to advance. Bill Hook of Knickerbocker and Anthony King of Liberty National rounded out those with sub-par scores with matching 1-under 71s. Nine players, four of which were amateurs including 2018 MGA Public Links champion Jonathan Jeter of Nassau Players, posted even-par 70s to advance.

August 10 - Cherry Valley Club, Garden City, N.Y.

Chris Dejohn of Arcola led the way as 15 players qualified on Monday afternoon at Cherry Valley. Dejohn, an amateur, started with a double bogey but then tallied eight birdies and shot a 6-under 66. Eighteen-year-old Jack Irons of MGA e-Club - New Jersey carded a 4-under 68 to finish the day second. Four players, including Cherry Valley's own amateurs Don Enga and Gerard Connolly, joined pro Vince Ramalgi of Montclair and amateur Dave Scialabba of Meadow Brook at 2-under 70. Amateur Arav Patel and a group of three pros came in at 1-under 71, while five others shot an even-par 72 to qualify.
