Oakes is Two-Time Champ at Women's Public Links

Final Results

July 9, 2009 – Allison Oakes of Sterling Farms fired an even-par 71 to win the 12th WMGA/MGA Women’s Public Links Championship on July 9 at Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point, N.Y. This is Oakes’ second victory at the Women’s Public Links (2007). Karen Bouloucon of Black Bear, the 2005 champion, carded a four-over-par 75 to finish in second.

“I really enjoyed playing this course today,” said an excited Oakes afterward. “Although it was probably the hilliest course I have ever played, I loved the challenge.” Oakes began her round with a birdie and finished with an even-par 36 on the front nine. She found trouble on the back nine with three early bogies, but rebounded with birdies on the final two holes.

“I played pretty well throughout and to end the round birdie, birdie really felt good,” said Oakes.

Jeanne Waters of West Sayville finished third after a five-over-par 76 and Diana Fisher of Maple Moor in fourth after carding a 78. Rounding out the top five was Jane Kuhfuss of Sunset Valley with an 80. Former champion Laura Woolgar of the Blue Hill Ladies Club finished in sixth place with an 81.

Allison Oakes now joins Daria Cummings (2006 & 2008), Jeannine Mondesando (2000 & 2002) and Joan Placek (1999 & 2001) as the only two-time winners in the history of the championship.
