Familiar Faces Advance to Quarterfinals of Met Junior

NISSEQUOGUE, N.Y. (July 18, 2012) - The round of 16 produced another scorcher with temperatures reaching above 100 degrees, but eight players were able to outlast their competitors and reach the quarterfinals of the 95th Met Junior Championship at Nissequogue Golf Club in St. James, N.Y. In a rematch of last year’s 43rd MGA/MetLife Boys Championship, Christopher Gabriele was able avenge his loss and defeated Theo Humphrey 3 & 2.

Stephen Pastore survived a marathon match with Sean Trainor and won on the 22nd hole of play. Two other matches needed extra holes with both Scott Kim and Jerry Wall winning on the first extra hole against Kieran Purcell and Bradley Lankler, respectively.

Twelve-year-old Solomon Thompson fought hard but lost 1 up to Peter Kim, who had breezed through his first two matches winning 4 & 2 and 4 & 3. Coming off an 8 & 7 victory in the round of 32, Will Bernstein needed all 18 holes to win 1 up on Louis Bodine.

In the remaining two matches, Mark Reilly defeated Luke Edeleman 4 & 2, and Armando Olivieri won 2 & 1 over Gilbert Chang.
