Met Area Girls Headed to U.S. Girls Junior Championship

UPDATED: July 24, 2013 - After winning her match in the Round of 64 5 & 4, Nicole Morales will head to the Round of 32 on Thursday at the U.S. Girl's Junior Championship. Morales will take on Bethany Wu of Diamond Bar, California. Also advancing today was Hana Ku, who survived to win her match 1 up. On Thursday she will look to defeat Samantha Wagner of Windermere, Florida.

UPATED: July 23, 2013 - Nicole Morales of South Salem, N.Y. , advanced through stroke play qualifying at the U.S. Girl's Junior Championship with a 36-hole score of 69-76-145, which put her at 1-over par and T-11th. Also advancing to the match play portion of the event are sisters Hana Ku and Anina Ku of Basking Ridge, N.J. Hana finished with a 5-over par total, and her sister Anina was one stroke behind at 6-over. Alice Chen of Princeton, N.J., finished right in the middle of the pack at 4-over.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 19, 2013) - Seven girls from the Met Area are set to play in the 2013 U.S. Girl's Junior Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind., beginning Monday, July 22. The girls will go through two rounds of on-site stroke play qualifying to narrow down the starting field of 156 players to the low 64 and ties, who will advance to match play.

Here's who to look for from the Met Area:

Alice Chen, Princeton, N.J.- Chen won the 2013 NJSIAA Tournament of Champions and was named the Star Ledger's Girl's Golf Player of the Year. She also just won her second consecutive New Jersey State Girls Junior title.

Cindy Ha, Demarest, N.J.- Ha finished 4th in the 2013 New Jersey Girls High School Championship, and was the runner-up in th 2012 New Jersey State Women's Amateur Championship. She was also the 2011 New Jersey State Girls Junior Champion. Ha played on the MGA squad during the 2012 French-American Challenge Matches in October at Sebonack.

Anina Ku, Basking Ridge, N.J.-  Ku won the 2013 AJGA Annapolis Junior Championship, and was also just a part of the winning team to capture the Girls Division of the New Jersey PGA Junior Masters. Her sister, Hana,  is also in the field at Sycamore Hills. Hana advanced to match play in the 2012 U.S. Women's Public Links Championship and is committed to play on the golf team at Princeton.

Nicole Morales, South Salem, N.Y.- Morales was exempt into the field due to her World Amateur Golf Ranking - she is currently ranked 12th. Morales made it to the Round of 16 in last year's Junior Girls where she fell to Lydia Ko. She was just a part of the prestigious AJGA Wyndham Cup, and finished T-4th at the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions. Morales also won the 2013 AJGA Thunderbird Invitational and has given a verbal commitment to attend Alabama.

Kuriko Tsukiyama, West New York, N.J.- Tsukiyama, a member of the 2010 MGA French-American Challenge team, finished 8th at this year's South Atlantic Amateur, and also finished 8th at the 2012 Junior PGA Championship and the AJGA Rolex Girls Junior. She became the youngest player (at age 14) to win the New Jersey State Women's Amateur in 2010.
