(July 24, 2013) – A total of 15 players out of 125 qualified for the 98th Met Open sponsored by MetLife today in the sectional qualifying round at Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle, N.J. The Met Open will be held at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club in Old Westbury, N.Y. August 20-22. It is a 54-hole stroke play competition and there will be a cut after 36 holes.

Head Pro Brent Studer of Manasquan River tied for the low round of the day with a 3-under 69. It was Brad Olson of Rumson and Travis William Deibert of The Ridge at Back Brook who tied Studer and they all will confidently head to Old Westbury as medalists from this sectional qualifying round. The Towson sophomore is coming off his NJSGA Public Links victory at Galloping Hill last week. The other 2-under 70 was also shot by an amateur, Eddie W. Carnes of MGA eClub – New Jersey.

Four professionals shot 1-under 71s including 2006 NJSGA Open Champion Jason Lamp of Deal. Tying lamp was Andy Brock of Metuchen, Craig Lindsey of Madison and Tyler Kitson of Hamilton Farm.

The last six players to qualify had to shoot even par to advance to Old Westbury. The six 72s were fired by amateur Doug Walters of Panther Valley, Lou Kubisa of Knob Hill, Peter Meurer of Staten Island Practice Center, Brett Jones of Trump National – Bedminster, amateur John Lay III of MGA eClub – New Jersey and amateur Hyung Mo Kim of Darlington.

Manasquan River, a par-72 (36-36), played to 6,925 yards for the qualifier. This was one of two qualifiers held today for the Met Open sponsored by MetLife and the MGA will hold three more over the next two weeks to decide the final field.
