Met Open Qualifying Begins at Forest Hill Field Club

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (July, 21 2014) – Amateur Eddie Carnes of MGA eClub-New Jersey took home medalist honors after firing a 4-under par 67 at today’s Sectional Qualifying Round for the 99th Met Open Championship held at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, N.J. A field of 145 players competed for 15 qualifying positions (plus ties) to advance to the championship at Trump National - Bedminster on August 19-21.

Carnes’ round included six birdies as he separated himself by 3 shots from the closest competitor in the field, which was newly crowned Met Junior champion Dawson Jones of MGA eClub – New Jersey. Jones, coming off his win at the Met Junior at Rockaway River last week, shot a 1-under par 70. Tyler Brewington, an amateur from Neshanic Valley also qualified after carding a 1-under par 70.

Mark Yannotta of Essex Golf, Matthew Guyton of Rockaway Hunting Club, Scott Paris of Plainfield, Jeremy Quinn of Apple Ridge and amateur Harrison Shih of Alpine all qualified at even par 71. 

Brothers Jeremy and Ethan Wall, both amateurs from Manasquan River, also qualified after scoring rounds of 71 and 73, respectively. Nicholas Rencis (a) of Ballyowen and Kyle Finnican (a) of Country Club of New Canaan qualified at 1-over par 72.

The following players qualified after carding 2-over par 73s: Ethan Ng (a) of MGA eClub – New York City, Mark Costanza (a) of Isleworth, Kieran Purcell (a) of Essex County, Jerry Courville Jr of Shorehaven, Spencer Shepperly (a) of Morris County, Chris Pavelic (a) of Round Hill, Keith Grassing of Haworth and John Bushka of Aspetuck Valley.  

Forest Hill Field Club played to a par 36-35-71 at 6,547 yards.
