Mike Ballo Leads Qualifiers at Morris County

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (July, 22 2014) – A field of 115 players competed for 11 qualifying positions plus ties today at the Sectional Qualifying Round for the 99th Met Open Championship, held at Morris County Golf Club in Morristown, N.J. for a chance to compete in the championship at Trump National - Bedminster on August 19-21.

Firing a 2-under par 68 and taking home medalist honors was Mike Ballo of Woodway. Ballo is no stranger to Met Area play, he tied for 2nd at the 2012 Met Open and has two Ike Championship titles to his name, winning back to back titles in 2010 and ‘09 when he was an amateur.

Coming in tied for second was amateur Jimmy Dengler Jr of Rumson. Dengler, a sophomore at Loyola University, carded a 1-under par 69 and finished as only the third player under par for the day. Sangsoo Lee of MGA eClub – New Jersey also quailed at 1-under par 69.

 Three players finished the day at even par 70 to qualify: Drew Jordan of Hamilton Farm, Ryan Fountaine of Arcola and amateur Dan O’Rourke of Oak Hill.

Steve Donnely of Pine Hollow, Chris Mazuchetti of Due Process Stable, amateur Cody Cox of MGA eClub – Hudson Valley, amateur Evan Deluca of MGA eClub Westchester/Fairfield and Pat Fillian of Canoe Brook all qualified at 1-over par 71.

Morris County Golf Club played to a par 36-34-70 at 6,522 yards.
