Guerra Medals at Met Open Qualifier at Knollwood

ELMSFORD N.Y. (July 20, 2015) – 148 golfers from the Met Area battled through the summer heat at Knollwood Country Club for a chance to grab 13 spots (including ties) for the 100th Met Open Championship. Toda. Knollwood, played to a par 71 at 6,483 yards today.

Mario Guerra of Quaker Ridge earned medalist honors, shooting a 3-under 68. Guerra last played in the Met Open in 2012.

David Young of Sleepy Hollow, father of this year’s Ike winner, Cameron Young, posted a 2-under 69 that included 4 birdies on the day. Young’s best result at the Met Open is a tie for 8th in 2008. Joining him at 69 were John McCarthy of Morris County, who had five birdies today, and Jonathan Renza of Mohansic, who also qualified for the Met Open last year.

The low amateur on the day was Max Adler of Winged Foot, who shot a 1-under 70. This will be the first time Adler will compete in the Met Open, and it will also be played at his home course.

Scott Sessions of Knollwood  performed well at his home course today with an even par 71, which was good even to qualify for his first Met Open of his career. Joining him at even par who will also be making their first appearance at the Met Open are amateurs Aidan McDermott of Pleasantville, and Chris Sells of Shorehaven. Professionals Christopher Ryan Deforest Jr. of Roundout Golf Club and Tim Rosenhouse of Engineers Country Club also qualified with an even par 71. 

Steve Sieg of Navesink shot a 1-over 72 to make his first appearance at the Met Open in five years. Sieg has two top 10 finishes in the Met Open, dating back to 1998 and 1989. Joining him to grab the last spot were amateurs Thomas Lee of MGA eClub – New Jersey, and Paul Terminello of Met PGA Junior Club. The head professional of todays hosted course, Bob Miller Jr., also qualified, along with Ray Ford of Rolling Hills, Adam Larkin of Bethpage, John Bushka of Aspetuck Valley and Andy Brock of Metuchen.
