ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 31, 2018) – A field of 60 amateurs aged 65 and over will vie for the title in the 7th MGA Senior Masters Tournament, Tuesday, September 4 at Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success, N.Y.

Reigning Champion
Jay Blumenfeld of Mountain Ridge claimed the title in his first-ever appearance in the event last year at Bedford Golf and Tennis Club. This year, he’ll aim to match Ron Vannelli of Forsgate (2014-15) as the only other competitor to win the Senior Masters title in back-to-back years. Blumenfeld enters the tournament fresh off advancing to match play in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.

Past Champions
Blumenfeld will be joined by three additional past champions in the event, as Vannelli, David Pilossoph of Bronx River (2016), and Marty Winkelman of Glen Head (2013) are all in the field.

New to the Crowd
Each year, more competitors become eligible to compete in the MGA Senior Masters. This year, 16-time MGA champion George Zahringer of Deepdale joins the field in hope of hoisting yet another MGA trophy. Tom Yellin of Stanwich is also making his first appearance in the event and earlier this year won the Westchester Senior Amateur title at Brooklawn. Both Zahringer and Yellin made the cut at the recent 22nd Callaway MGA Senior Open, with Zahringer tying for low amateur honors and finishing tied 14th overall.

Seeking Another Top Finish
Several competitors are back in the field this year after quality finishes in 2017. This includes Ralph Lombardi of Neshanic Valley and John Ward of Stanwich, who along with Vannelli finished inside last year’s top-five.
