Carey Cup Comeback

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 13, 2020) -- After starting with 16 outstanding performances, the MGA's Best Moments of the Decade bracket was filled out Sunday evening with the 15th Governor Hugh L. Carey Challenge Cup coming out on top. Followers voted on the matchups and while Brad Tilley's impressive MGA Mid-Am victory that clinched a sweep of regional Mid-Amateur championship titles advanced to the finals as the No. 6 seed, the thrilling comeback against the Golfing Union of Ireland held it's top seed in the final vote.

Team MGA entered the final day trailing the GUI by a 4-2 margin. However, three early wins from Brad Tilley of Sleepy Hollow, Thomas La Morte of Knickerbocker and James Nicholas of Westchester over the GUI's trio of Walker Cup team members shifted momentum to the home team's side. After a crucial half point earned by Joe Saladino of Huntington, the entire match came down to host club Arcola's very own Trevor Randolph. In the end, Randolph drained a 12-footer to win his match and clinch the unlikely comeback that finished ina. 6.5 - 5.5 win for the MGA. "We put Trevor out last for a reason and he really came through in the clutch and showed what he's made of," said MGA President and Captain Tod Pike.
