Gotterup At Home Earning Medalist Honors At Hollywood

Deal, N.J. (May 3, 2022) – Chris Gotterup of Rumson, N.J., looked right at home at Hollywood Golf Club on Tuesday as he paced the field with a 7-under 64 en route to medalist honors at U.S. Open Local Qualifying. Gotterup’s bogey-free round was the only of its kind on a day when just three players finished under-par. The New Jersey native has played exceptional golf recently, playing on the PGA TOUR in the Puerto Rico Open earlier this season and finishing tied for seventh.

“It was nice to be home,” said the 2019 Met Amateur winner who's finishing up his collegiate career with a season at Oklahoma. “I haven't played the course in a while but it's one of my favorite places we play in the area. I live 20 minutes from here. It was just good vibes all day and the round was pretty smooth and stress free. The course was playing firm and fast and with the wind up it’s always a little spicy.”

Gotterup was seemingly impervious to the heat, making the turn at 3-under. He quickly upped the ante on the par-five 10th, dropping an eagle putt to continue the momentum. Hollywood features just two par-fives and Gotterup was able to use his length to finish at three-under on the two par-fives.

Stephen Shellock of Shrewsbury, N.J., and amateur Wanxi Sun of Danville, Calif., were the only other golfers who automatically advanced to Final Qualifying, carding a 3-under 68 and 2-under 69, respectively.

The remaining spots were decided in an 8-for-4 playoff. In total, seven slots plus two alternate positions were up for grabs on Tuesday. Buddy Hansen, Deven Ramachandran, Jurgen Maurer and Etienne Brault advanced to Final Qualifying after the playoff after finishing their days at even par. A few more holes were needed to determine alternates. Spencer Weiner secured first alternate, and Tony Perla was the second alternate.

Final Qualifying in the Met Area will be held on Monday, June 6th at Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club.
