Weather Halts Play at Carter Cup

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (August 1, 2012) - Driving rainstorms and lightning put a lengthy suspension on the first-round of the 10th Carter Cup at Baltusrol Golf Club. Seventeen-year-old Jared Mactas of Woodcliff Lake, N.J., is the current leader after shooting an even-par 71, which included four birdies. However, nine players have yet to complete their rounds.

"I putted the ball very well," said Mactas. "I didn't drive the ball in very many fairways, but didn't get myself in a lot of trouble either. When I made bogeys, I would be very resilient and make birdies afterward."

Six players are T2 after shooting 1-over 72s including Ethan DeForest of Cottekill, N.Y., Ethan Wall of Brielle, N.J., Harrison Shih of Saddle River, N.J., Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, Conn., Paul Pastore of Greenwich, Conn., and Charles Cai of West Windsor, N.J.

The tournament was suspended at 1 p.m. and will resume when the weather permits and the course is fit for play.
