7 Players Qualify for Met Am at Echo Lake SQR

WESTFIELD, N.J. (July 8, 2013) –A total of 142 players competed today for only seven qualifying spots plus ties in Monday’s Met Amateur sectional qualifying round at Echo Lake Country Club. When the 18-hole round was complete, seven players recorded scores of even par or better to advance to the championship at the Stanwich Club, beginning August 1.

Four players fired 1-under 71s including the past MGA president and champion Allan Small of Fairmount. Small, who is currently the Schulman Director for the MGA Foundation, went out 3-over but came in with a  4-under 32 to share medalist honors. Kevin O’Connell of Spring Lake, Hartlej Gill of Royce Brook and Ryan Snouffer of Panther Valley joined Small in the 71 club.

The last three to qualify with 72s were Nick Desai of Baltusrol, Ethan Wall of Manasquan River and Chris O’Keefe of Bethpage.

This was the one of three Met Am qualifiers conducted on Monday. The final Met Amateur qualifier will be held tomorrow at Sands Point Golf Club in Sands Point, N.Y.

The Met Amateur is open to all amateurs who belong to a Met Area club and have a Handicap Index not exceeding 5.0.
