Gene Bernstein Elected President of the MGA

HARRISON, N.Y. (December 2, 2010) – Gene M. Bernstein of Sebonack Golf Club was elected to a one-year term as president of the Metropolitan Golf Association at the Association’s 113th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 1 at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y. Bernstein is the MGA’s 59th president and will head a 22-member Executive Committee and serve as chairman of the Association’s charitable Foundation.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (November 14, 2010) – Two years after winning his first PGA Tour event, former Met Area resident Johnson Wagner showed plenty of fight in his effort to keep his PGA Tour card at the season-ending Children’s Miracle Network Classic at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The five-time MGA major champion tied for third in the tournament, shooting a final-round 67, and tied for third.

Herman and Bradley Earn 2011 PGA Tour Cards

November 1, 2010 - The hard work has paid off for Jim Herman and Keegan Bradley, who completed successful seasons on the Nationwide Tour to earn their PGA Tour cards for 2011. Herman and Bradley, both with Met Area ties, will be playing alongside Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson next year as they finished in the top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list, automatically earning full PGA Tour status for next year.

Area Juniors Named AJGA All-Americans

October 25 - The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) named three local juniors to its 2010 Rolex All-American teams. This year’s U.S. Junior champion,Jim Liu of Smithtown, N.Y., was named to the boys’ First Team. Karen Chung of Livingston, N.J. and Princeton University freshman Kelly Shon of Port Washington, N.Y., were both selected to the girls’ Second Team. All three players receive Rolex All-American honors for a second consecutive year.

Ligue de Paris Wins French-American Challenge

October 14, 2010 – The Metropolitan Golf Association and Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association team came up short in their efforts to win the 18th French-American Challenge on October 14 as they fell to the Ligue de Paris 12 ½ to 7 ½ . Despite a solid performance in the first day of the competition, the MGA/WMGA team was unable to overcome the great play of the French team during the singles matches, which were held today at Golf de Fontainebleau in Fontainebleau, France.

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (October 12, 2010) - The Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation conducted its annual Presidents Council Fall Meeting at the Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury, N.Y. More than 200 club presidents, general managers, and other club leaders attended the conference, which was highlighted by a keynote presentation by Jim Hyler, President of the USGA, on major issues facing the game.
