Samara Takes 6th WMGA/MGA Women's Public Links Championship in Sudden Death

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.-Tina Samara of Oyster Bay in Woodbury, NY, captured the 6th WMGA/MGA Public Links title at Bethpage Golf Course (Red) in Farmingdale, NY to edge out Susan Choi, of Lido, with a routine par on the second hole of a sudden death playoff.

MGA Foundation Helps Build Putting Green for Veterans

BRONX, N.Y.-The Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation has partnered with the Charles N. Bajart Jr. American Legion Post of Yonkers,  NY to construct an indoor putting green for the residents of the Bronx VA Medical Center at 130 West Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx.   The green was constructed by Michael Lehrer of Home Green Advantage and officially opened for play on Friday, February 21st.

Jericho, N.Y.- University of Virginia golf team member Brad Tilley won his first MGA title in dramatic fashion, as the only player under par in the 48th MGA/Canon “IKE” Stroke Play Championship.  This year the MGA welcomed its new sponsor, Canon, the beginning of what the MGA believes will be a long and successful relationship.

West Orange, N.J.-In the first three-way playoff in tournament history, the Sky View Golf Club team of Anthony Cassetta and Michael Fitton captured the 2003 MGA/MetLife Men's Net Team Championship at Rock Spring Club, in West Orange, NJ, defeating Blue Hill Golf Course’s William Clifford and Joseph D’Auria Sr. and Deer Run Golf and Tennis Club’s Paul Conway and Carl Gehron with a net birdie on the first playoff hole.

No fewer than three U.S. Mid Amateur champions top the list of contenders who will begin their quest for the 2003 Ike Championship title on Monday, July 30th at the demanding Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, NY.  A field of 101 players, pared from an entry of 691, will compete over two days, 54 holes, stroke play to take home team and individual titles in the MGA’s prestigious Stroke Play Championship. This year, Canon USA takes over the sponsorship of The Ike, the beginning of what is hoped to be a long and successful relationship.

Graham Leads Qualifiers for 24th U.S. Senior Open

White Plains, N.Y.- Amateur James Graham of Winged Foot Country Club, shot a 2 under par 69 at Elmwood Country Club in White Plains, NY, to lead a group of three golfers who advanced to the 24th U.S. Senior Open, scheduled for June 26th – 29th, 2003, at The Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Joining him are Louis Carbonetti and six-time NJSGA Amateur Champion, 64-year old Robert Housen of Manasquan River CC, who both carded one-under 70’s to gain their spots in the championship.
